Age is NOT just a number and why you are never too old to start your own business.

Women are often made to feel that with age, they have to shrink.  

The media would have us think that we lose our worth the older we get, but what if our age was actually our superpower? 

The question I get asked more than any other is am I too old to start my business and I always say no!  

You are never too old to change, and we have to appreciate that the older we are the more experience we have. It is NEVER too late to follow your dreams, and, in fact, it is often even better to do this in later life! 

With age comes wisdom by the boat load and its high time we celebrated this and do something we can embrace and do something that makes us happy something we can embrace and grow.  

I have changed career twice and both times pushed me way out of my comfort zone, I went to university and trained as a nurse at 30 and changed career again and became a business owner at 50. I have learnt lots since then.  

My reason to start my business resonates with a lot of the women I help because it followed burnout. You can take those skills you have gained and use them in any career, I wouldn’t be doing what I am doing now if it weren’t for the things I learnt as a nurse.  

But it isn’t all plain sailing. 

You need to know what you want to do, ok you may not know how to do it but its ok, you can learn. You will get told you are crazy (I did) but let me tell you that you are not!   

You need to be prepared to learn quickly, trust that others can help and believe in yourself. Work on your mindset as well as your business because this will make a difference. You need to be prepared to invest in your business, we don’t know what we don’t know and can spend times going around in circles. Invest in good advice and a helping hand in whatever that needs to be. I have made the mistakes so now I use that experience to help others grow their business quickly. 

Surround yourself with positive people that really want you to succeed. 

You have life experience and that is invaluable, you are Older and wiser, you’ve been around the block. You have possibly had enough of the exhausting 9-5 job you have and now it’s your time to follow your own dream. 

You have figured out what you love doing and what bores you, how you want to spend your days. You’ve heard the saying, “Do what you love and you’ll never work a day in your life.” Not sure I buy that 100% because running a business is hard work but its your business and you will be doing this for you. 

So, it doesn’t matter how old you are, or what career you have had, you can take the skills and experience you have learnt and do anything you want.  

Who says we must stay in a career forever? When are we to old to change? Never. 

Do not ever think you are too old to start your own business. Do not tell yourself you cannot do this and do not listen to those naysayers! You can absolutely do this; you are not crazy. So, believe in yourself, put on your big girl pants and go for it! Remember that young you, full of self-doubt, little life experience? What a difference as we age! Now we know we can do anything! 

My past career in the nursing profession taught me things that I would never have thought would lead me to helping hundreds of creative business owners grow a profitable business and creating a business hub for florists across the nation, but it did and I will never regret starting my business at 50
